The memorial commemorates more than 8,000 Jews and Sintize and Sinti who were deported from Hamburg between 1940 and 1945. For most it was a journey into death.
Where today the Lohsepark stretches from the SPIEGEL building in the north to the Baakenhafen in the south, the Hanover train station once stood. Between 1940 and 1945, more than 8,000 Jews, Sinti and Roma from Hamburg and Northern Germany were deported from here to the ghettos, concentration and extermination camps in Central and Eastern Europe. Since 2017, the memorial Hannoverscher Bahnhof has commemorated this dark chapter in the history of the city of Hamburg.
