Lummen, Belgium - Remembrance ceremony 7 April 2024
On April 7, 1994, ten Belgian blue helmets, para commandos, were murdered in Camp Kigali in Rwanda. The ten Belgian soldiers were part of the UN peacekeeping force UNAMIR. The aim of this peace operation was to support the Arusha Accords. The murders took place around the beginning of the Rwandan genocide. In 1998, April 7 was declared Belgian Veterans Day. Then the more than 300,000 soldiers who participated in the foreign missions are commemorated. Also in Lummen, former fighters Lummen-Linkhout and the Municipality of Lummen commemorate and honor our soldiers of the past and present.
This year's commemoration will take place at the peacekeeper's monument.
