Son of Alfred Leonard and Mary Gertrude Chandler, of Toddington, Bedfordshire.
In November 2018, a shoot of the Anne Frank tree was planted in the garden of the Protestant Churchyard in Made. The young tree originated from the horse chestnut that stood in front of the window in the garden of the house where the Jewish Anne Frank lived.
