On 3 September 2006, at the initiative of the Op Vleugels der Vrijheid Foundation, a monument was unveiled at the Lilbosch Abbey in Echt (Pey). This memorial, together with 6 memorials in places in the municipality of Echt-Susteren where Allied planes crashed during the Second World War, are a tribute to the crew members who gave their lives in these dark days of our history for regaining our freedom .
Since 2006 an annual memorial is held at this Main Monument on the last Sunday of September. For many years the board members of the Op Vleugels der Vrijheid Foundation have visited all the aforementioned memorials and the grave of Flght Lieutenant John Arkle (Royal Air Force) in the cemetery near the Amalberga church in Susteren on these places on the Saturday prior to the commemoration. to lay a wreath and reflect on the different situations in which these soldiers died.
