Remembrance ceremony in Meensel – Kiezegem, Belgium.

On Sunday 11 August 2024 a remembrance ceremony took place on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the retaliatory actions, carried out by the occupying forces on 1 and 11 August 1944, in which 4 fellow citizens were murdered on the spot and 63 of the 91 hostages died in the Neuengamme concentration camp and sub-camps.

 

-  09.00 am: flower tribute to the monument in Kiezegem

-  10.00 am: commemoration at the museum site, at the Sint Mattheuskerk in Meensel.

- 11.00 am: civil commemoration with funeral roll, speeches by Mr. Rudi Beeken, mayor of Tielt-Winge and Mrs. Babette Weyns, historian and PhD                              researcher at Ghent University, followed by a floral tribute at the Meensel cemetery of honor in Heibosstraat.
