Memorial Slag bij Ramskapelle
At the end of October 1914, the battle of Ramskapelle took place, an important episode in the First World War. This battle halted the advance of the Germans to the Channel ports and saved Paris from the German invasion. It was the trigger for a four-year war of positions. Ramskapelle's frontline position during the First World War was a catastrophe for its architectural heritage. At the end of 1918 this polder village was one big mess.
