The Lancaster bomber was shot down on this spot by a German night fighter, in the night of 11-12 May 1944. The Bomber was on route from Elsham Wolds to Hasselt.
All crewmembers were killed in the crash. Their bodies were brought to Fort 3 in Borsbeek and later on to Schoonselhof Cemetery in Antwerp.
