Kiewit, Belgium - Remembrance Ceremony 'Mad Tuesday' 7 September 2024.

Commemoration of 80 years since the end of WWII and the local resistance action 'Mad Tuesday' on Kiewit

At the end of WWII, the local resistance regularly gathered in the forests of Kiewit. In September 1944, the bombings became increasingly intense. Kiewit became the battlefield of a clash between the retreating German troops, who had entrenched themselves behind the canal, and the Allies. On Tuesday 5 September 1944, Mad Tuesday, things went terribly wrong. Nine resistance fighters were killed.  We commemorate 80 years since the end of WWII and reflect on the lives of these 9 resistance fighters with the launch of a podcast.
