“De Wanhoop van Meensel-Kiezegem”

In 1998 a bronze statue was placed in the former concentration camp of Neuengamme near Hamburg, in the former garden of the Gestapo where the ashes of the crematorium were spread as fertilizer. This statue commemorates especially the widows and mothers of the victims.

“The Despair of Meensel-Kiezegem” is an original creation by the famous sculptress May Claerhout.
