Koersel Whitley Monument
Inbetween Naaldweg Nr 81 and Nr 83
The memorial plaque is located near the place where the Whitley VT4231 bomber crashed during WWII. It also pays tribute to the 5 fallen English airmen who, on Saturday 26 July 1941, returned from a bombing raid from Hannover (Germany). The bomber was shot down at 04:10 in the morning by the German 'Night Fighter' Fw Reinhard Kollack. Their plane crashed in Boven-Koersel, no one survived the crash and the five are buried in Koersel at the municipal cemetery
