Deurne, Belgium - 80th Remembrance Police officers.
On Sunday, January 14, 2024 a ceremony was held at Wim Saerensplein, Deurne, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the arrest of 43 Deurne police officers for their support of the resistance.
The Peace Memorial was built in memory of part of the Deurns police force that was arrested by the German occupier on January 14, 1944 and taken to the concentration camps, Buchenwald or Gross-Rosen. Only 8 officers returned, 35 were left and died. Part of it is remembered through street names around and around Wim Saerensplein.
