Oostende Vindictive Monument
The restored bow of HMS VIndictive was given a prominent place on the Oosteroever in Ostend in May '13. With that ship the British tried to block the Ostend harbor in the night of 9 to 10 May 1918 in order to prevent German submarines from entering the North Sea. HMS Vindictive was sunk in the harbor channel of Ostend. This raid cost the British 8 dead, 10 missing and 29 wounded. Close to where the ship was sunk, the memorial now stands as a silent witness to the Great War.
