Nécropole nationale de Villers-Carbonnel
The national necropolis of Villers-Carbonnel is a French military cemetery from the First World War. This 6,328 m2 necropolis was built in 1920: the same year, the graves of soldiers from the cemeteries of Barleux and Flaucourt were gathered there.
The cemetery contains 2,285 bodies, including 1,295 in ossuaries. There are the graves of soldiers who died during the various battles of the Somme.
The town of Villers-Carbonnel has erected its war memorial in the national necropolis. On the monument was engraved this inscription: “1914-1918 To the children of Villers-Carbonnel who died for France as all those who rest in this place died. "
In this necropolis are also the graves of 18 soldiers killed in the vicinity in May and June 1940 and buried here in 1941.
