Courtecon Village Disparu

Information: chemindesdames.fr

In 1914, Courtecon, pronounced “Courcon”, was a small village with 30 houses and had been steadily losing population since the end of the 19th century (83 inhabitants in 1911). Occupied by the Germans from September 1914, it was completely destroyed by French bombings in April 1917.

Declared uninhabitable and uncultivable and classified as a “red zone”, Courtecon was initially expropriated by the State before being declassified and put back on sale in 1926. In the meantime, the decree of September 9, 1923 attached the commune to Pancy. A commemorative chapel was built in 1932 on the site of the former Saint-Martin church.
