On 18 August 1944, 26 residents were arrested in Wetteren by the German occupiers on suspicion of being members of the resistance. Six of them were taken away and deported to concentration camps. They never returned...

These six were Paul Blanckaert, Cyriel Wante, Adolf Van Kerckhove, Camiel Bossaer, Georges Tremmerie and Arthur Verstuyft.
