Nidrum Communal Cemetery
Russian war victims buried in this cemetery.
After the harsh winter of 1941-1942, many trees had fallen and, for lack of manpower, Russian prisoners of war were used for culling, for which purpose a camp was set up at Sourbrodt in 1942. The dead were buried in the Nidrumer Heck quarry, where Soviet prisoners of war from the Elsenborn camp were also buried.
In 1947, these dead were transferred to Nidrum cemetery, where they found a resting place. In 1996 the dead were reburied in the cemetery and a monument was also unveiled. In total there are 30 graves. Each tombstone is inscribed: UNKNOWN SOVIET CITIZEN, PRISONER OF WAR, 1941-1945 WAR.
