New Irish Farm Cemetery, Belgium - Burial Ceremony.
A burial service was held for two unknown soldiers of the Royal Fusiliers at 10.30am at New Irish Farm Cemetery on Wednesday 9th October 2019.
The casualties were discovered in 2014 during building work near the site of the original Irish Farm Cemetery. Although artefacts indicate that they were serving with the Royal Fusiliers, it has not been possible to identify the casualties despite extensive research by the UK’s Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre.
CWGC will install headstones on their graves commemorating them as soldiers of the Royal Fusiliers ‘Known unto God’, and care for their graves in perpetuity.
The service was attended by British Defence Staff, Regimental representatives, CWGC staff and local dignitaries.
