Beringen, Belgium - Liberation ceremony

The liberation of Beringen is commemorated September 6, 2024 in the Brugstraat.

The war memorial commemorates the liberation of Beringen by the British Guards Armoured Division and the Princess Irene Brigade of the 2nd British Army, who captured the Beringen bridgehead on 6 September 1944. The existing war memorial on Brugstraat was removed in 2021 following the widening works of the Albert Canal. Now that these works have been completed, a new monument is being erected. The two text panels in natural stone from the old monument were preserved. These will be reworked into the new monument that was made in collaboration with Sint-Ferdinand from Lummen. The students of the third year of shell construction made the design and also took care of the elaboration of this.
