Assent, Belgium - Hilaire Gemoets and Crash Lancaster

On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, we commemorate Hilaire Gemoets former Corps - commander of the Belgian Partisans, and also a member of the Sabotage group "Group G" in Webbekom and Assent. Who was shot 80 years ago just a few days before our liberation.

We also paid tribute to the seven crew members of the Lancaster III JA976 "S for Sugar" , crashed April 28, 1944, resting in Webbekom. Six died in the crash, a seventh died on May 1, 1944. Pilot Blenkinsop remained alive and was able to go into hiding with the resistance, but was later arrested in a raid in Meensel-Kiezegem.
