Weimar former Freight Station

Former Weimar Freight Station

More than 50,000 prisoners arrived here during WWII to be transferred from here to KZ Buchenwald or one of its satellite camps. In May 1942, Jews from Thuringia were rounded up by the Gestapo in the cattle auction room to be deported from here to the Bełżyce ghetto in Poland. Almost all of them were then murdered in the Majdanek concentration and extermination camp. An information board on site points out this history.
