There are seven 1939-1945 war casualties commemorated in this site. The war graves are in the south-eastern part.
On November 22 1943, Halifax LW231 VR-F (Freddy) from 419 (Canadian moose) squadron bomber command was on its way for a bombing mission against Berlin. The plane was commanded by pilot William Hunter. Above Drenthe the plane was attacked by German night fighter and shot down. The plane crashed in the woods near Diever, killing the entire crew of seven.
