Leopoldsburg, Belgium - Remembrance Ceremony

On Friday 6 September 2024 we commemorated the liberation of our country in September 1944.

The 'Fusillade' on the Treurgracht in Leopoldsburg

After a word of welcome and a speech by the director of campus FLX, Mr. Johan Schepkens and an explanation by Prof. Dr. Peter Schrijvers, the roll call will follow, after which the first stones of the new ‘Path of Remembrance’ will be unveiled.

The path will consist of 22 stepping stones, equal to the number of crosses on the site. Every year, the stones will be supplemented by the students of Campus FLX during the commemoration ceremony.  The stones carry personal messages from the students that they wrote and/or drew during the preparatory lessons. Each stone is connected to one of the victims and the design that the students make will refer to this person. In this way, the path will be complete by the 100th anniversary.

After this unveiling, the floral tribute will follow at the monument.
