In the night of 16 to 17 June 1943 at 01 o'clock a Lancaster bomber exploded in the air above the hamlet of Grote Heide in the municipality of Neerpelt. The debris spread over the entire territory, which borders the Hageven nature reserve. The seven-man crew lost their lives.
