This monument, located on the edge of the D18 (Chemin des Dames) between the town of Cerny-en-Laonnois and the Caverne du Dragon, was erected in memory of Louis Raymond Jean ASTOUL, born August 10, 1892 in Théil, France, an officer in a battalion of Senegalese riflemen.

We can read: "In memory of our beloved son, Second Lieutenant Louis Astoul, of the 70th Senegalese, who died gloriously in these areas at the age of 24 during the attack of April 16, 1917 and his comrades.
