Axel Communal Cemetery
Polish War Graves Axel
Plot with the graves of 22 Polish soldiers who fell in the battle around Axel in 1944. 21 other Polish victims of this battle are buried in the Canadian War Cemetery in Adegem, Belgium.
Between the monument and the graves is a stone in the middle with the word Tatra inlaid in small stones. Intended as a reference to the Polish Tatra Mountains on the border of Poland and Slovenia, a piece of homeland for the fallen. Behind the 22 graves is a column with the Polish Eagle on a plaque.
There is also one Dutch War grave and several private veteran graves of the Second World War.
