Ieper, "The Lost Key" 9 October 2021
History Information (Source: IFF)
In order to make the Ypres civilian victims of the First World War visible in the memorial landscape in a subtle, recognizable and sustainable way, the In Flanders Fields Museum and the City of Ypres have set up a special project. Jeroen Bisscheroux came up with 'The Lost Key / la Clé Perdue' as an artistic interpretation for this.
Each "lost key" always brings to mind a different known civilian casualty. The key is anchored in the city in a place befitting the life (or death) of the victim whose name, date of death and age are engraved in the bronze.
The inauguration of the first set of keys will take place at Rijselstraat 82-84 (Ypres), as a commemoration of five members of the Ameloot family. They were killed together on November 12, 1914 by a shell impact. The Friends of IFF organize a remembrance for these victims, and also as a start-up for the entire memorial project.
We hereby commemorate:

- Emile Amelot
