Battle of the Kemmel Hill, Belgium
The Battle of the Kemmelberg was most severe between April 25 and April 29, 1918. The French then came to the rescue to close the breach in the front line but these actions cost them 10,000 deaths.
About half of the victims were later buried in the Ossuaire, the place where these losses are now commemorated in the presence of (inter) national and local authorities.
For the occasion, the flame is transferred from the Arc du Triomphe.
The songs are sung by school children from Heuvelland and the French neighbor Saint-Jans-Cappel.
