Antwerpen, Belgium - Stolpersteine

On Sunday 3 November 2024, at the initiative of Sabine Suchowolski Charbit and in collaboration with the "Burgerinitiatief Struikelstenen Antwerpen", 7 new stumbling stones were placed for members of the Suchowolski family.

During the placement ceremoniy, Sabine Suchowolski Charbit told the tragic story of the Suchowolski family:

“On 3 November, we will honour 7 members of our family. Mordka Schmoul Suchowolski came to Antwerp from Poland/Russia in 1909 in search of a better life for him and his family. He had 3 children and 5 grandchildren. During WWI, the family lived in England and the Netherlands. They returned to Belgium in 1919. No one expected a new war or the need for Jewish people to flee to safety. We don't know much about them. They did not survive the war. They will remain in our memories. By telling their story and placing stumbling stones in front of the houses where they lived, they are forever part of Antwerp's history.”
